Emmitt posted the acoustic first take in January 2024. At UNO Jazz Camp in June 2025, Willie Murillo arranged the song for the faculty big band.
On January 30, 2026, Travis James played “Ruby Red” on Southern Accents. The clip opens mid-comparison to Derek Trucks. After the song, James said:
“And I think maybe he’s got a good career ahead of him.”

About Emmitt
A guitar player from Omaha, working on his first record.
Emmitt DeWater is a blues-rock guitarist and songwriter from Omaha. In 2022, he performed in Omaha Community Playhouse’s School of Rock. The next year, he played Playing with Fire with Us and Them Blues Band and joined Gabe Stillman and Orphan Jon & the Abandoned onstage.
Emmitt began his first record with producer Paul Nelson. After Nelson’s death, Nick Schnebelen continued the sessions with him at Weights and Measures Studio in Kansas City.
